i rented

this movie a little while back.

i think tilda swinton is really lovely in it.
and the fact that it is all in italian did wonders to help me remember the language.

but what really sold me? all the beauty. the scenery, the architecture, and the clothes. all simply stunning. worth a watch just for that.

thoughts?

i'm looking for a classic (but not stuffy) bag that i can wear to work.

requirements:

large.
able to be carried over the shoulder.
camel/tan colored.
not too many details, but enough to keep things interesting.

so far i've found the one above, although i don't know if i love love love it. it's also from ivanka trump's line, which gives me considerable pause - i shudder to think that my money would, in any (indirect) way, contribute to donald trump's happiness. $150 from here.

there's also the one below, on sale at asos here. is this too plain? too big?

i recently

had the.most.amazing dessert concoction ever at my sister's house - a "banana whip." it is a frozen banana, all smushed up. doesn't sound the most tempting. but it is OUT of this world. see more details here.

and now i know exactly what my graduation gift to myself is.

a fruit juicer!!!

i have a feeling this might change my life. or, at the very least, my dessert routine.

{this photo - definitely not of a banana whip - reserves my right to always have real ice cream, whenever i feel like it. photo from here.}

last week

i went thrifting with a friend.

now, i consider myself a pretty seasoned thrifter. i've sought out bits and baubles east coast and west, in the u.s. and abroad. this was a delightful hunt - we are both treasure hunters, aware of the subtle differences in each others tastes, combing the racks for items that might attract either of us, relatively knowledgeable of the different brands, fabrics, cuts (she more than i, but that's okay).
as it happened, we both purchased coats. not surprising, if you know our tastes.

i am still daydreaming about one that i acquired. vintage, and in impressive condition, it looks to have been made in the 1930s or '40s. i can't help but imagine the woman who originally owned the coat - the events were she wore the coat, the small possessions that she kept in her pockets.

it's one of the (many) reasons why i love to spend my time in thrift stores. the actual coat is only the smallest part of the find; maybe the true treasure is its life before me.
