now, i consider myself a pretty seasoned thrifter. i've sought out bits and baubles east coast and west, in the u.s. and abroad. this was a delightful hunt - we are both treasure hunters, aware of the subtle differences in each others tastes, combing the racks for items that might attract either of us, relatively knowledgeable of the different brands, fabrics, cuts (she more than i, but that's okay).

as it happened, we both purchased coats. not surprising, if you know our tastes.
i am still daydreaming about one that i acquired. vintage, and in impressive condition, it looks to have been made in the 1930s or '40s. i can't help but imagine the woman who originally owned the coat - the events were she wore the coat, the small possessions that she kept in her pockets.
it's one of the (many) reasons why i love to spend my time in thrift stores. the actual coat is only the smallest part of the find; maybe the true treasure is its life before me.
{excellent words from here}
